Your Baby: Week 19
Vernix caseosa, a greasy white substance made of lanugo, oil and dead skin cells (yum) now coats baby’s skin, shielding it from the amniotic fluid. (Picture yourself after a nine-month bath, and the need for protection makes sense.) You might actually get to see the vernix at birth, especially if baby is premature.
Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces, and measures 6 inches, head to bottom. The hair on her scalp is sprouting. This is a crucial time for sensory development: Your baby’s brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don’t be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you.
What a fun week it has been (aside from the Cassidy news) Ella has been so loving and sweet and this baby in my belly is having daily dance parties. Movement is getting SO strong already, but still the baby stops moving when I call Brad over to feel kicks. Haha. We are only a week away from our big u/s and I cannot wait for everything that it offers. Seeing the 4 chambers of the heart, the brain hemispheres, gender, everything. It will just be such an exciting day! After our u/s we’re going to head to the city and look at cars. Brad has a little 2 seater Ran.ger that just will not work when it’s him and 2 kids. We have it narrowed down to our top 2 choices but we just want to go look at one of each and see which option will work better for our family (and Brad, since it will be his vehicle) so that we can start looking for the best options & prices out there. Wish us luck that one vehicle will stand out over the other as to what is best for our family! So, my Hump Day Bump Day post will probably not come out until Thursday so that I can update you on appointments and cars! Fun stuff.
