Hump Day Bump Day: 18 Weeks!

Your Baby: Week 18

What the heck is baby doing in there at 18 weeks? A lot! He’s working his muscles and practicing all kinds of moves. (Can you feel them yet?) Over the next few weeks, you should make sure to start sleeping on your side. That’s because baby (and your uterus) are getting big enough to press against large veins in the back of your abdomen, which can reduce the amount of blood going to your heart, making you feel lightheaded, or worse, lowering your blood pressure. Of course, your veins aren’t the only things that are prone to pressure — you might be too! Not only are you super busy, but you might be having some not-so-fun symptoms, like swollen feet or hands, backaches, leg cramps and nosebleeds. And the stress and discomfort might be keeping you up at night around week 18. Be sure, in your hectic schedule, that you plan some time to unwind. It’s important to give your body and your mind a break for a little while. That just might help you get the sleep you need, too.  Head to rump, your baby is approximately 5 1/2 inches long and weighs almost 7 ounces.  If you’re having a girl, her uterus and fallopian tubes are formed and in place. If you’re having a boy, his genitals are noticeable now, although he may hide them from you during an ultrasound.

Phew, what a week it’s been! Does it make it creepy that I thoroughly enjoyed a Sweet Potato with dinner last night and today that’s the size of this baby?! =) I stopped after dropping Ella off at school this morning and got myself a sweet tea, I hadn’t had one in a couple weeks, and now there is a dance party going on down there! This baby is STRONG, I’ve been feeling kicks and such from the outside now since about Friday but today some of these are so strong they catch me off guard. This baby is just as sly as Ella was though, every time I call Brad over to feel him move all movement just stops. Ha! Babies are silly. I wonder if it startles them when you call out? You’re just sitting there quietly enjoying all the movement and all of a sudden the baby hears someone scream “Hey Brad, get over here now!” Haha. That’s my theory I guess. =)
It’s been raining constantly in the mountaisn for the last 2 days. Yesterday we hit a high of 45 and right now we’re sitting at 42. The best part about a nice cold rain in the mountains? The next morning when there’s a little bit of bite to the chill and you can watch the mist rise up off of the mountains. Gorgeous!

How Far Along: 18 Weeks
Total Weight Gain: Not sure
Maternity clothes: Still just shirts, pants are getting tighter though, so maybe soon?
Sleep: Pretty good
Best Moment This Week: ALL of the crazy movement going on in there. And, someone asked Ella if she wanted a brother or sister the other day, she got all shy and whispers “A sister”! Melt!
Movement: Every day, and getting so strong!
Food Cravings: Chinese Food, I think I could eat it every day for the rest of this pregnancy. Yes, I would be massive, but I would be happy. =)
Gender: Don’t know for 2 more weeks, but I keep catching myself saying Him & He.
Labor Signs: Nope
Belly Button In or Out: In
What I miss: Sushi, drool!
What I’m looking forward to: Finding out gender so we can get some more planning done, and Brad and Ella getting in one some of this movement!
Weekly Wisdom: When it’s rainy and cold, make Chili & Cornbread, makes everything better. =)

And Belly pics!

  1. Your bump is so cute. I'm all envy (not good for right now)! BTW: Aidie wants to add her vote of "boy". I asked what she thought and no hesitation whatsoever! LOL. Also, Cannot BELIEVE how big El is! So fast 🙂
