Here is Ella’s favorite thing to do at the fun fest yesterday! =)
Yesterday morning started later than normal, Ella let us sleep until 7:15! Woo Hoo!
We got up, got ready for the day and drove down to Empire to go to the Original Hard.Rock.Cafe for breakfast. I was a little bummed that they had changed their menu and removed my favorite item, but I did indulge in a ham, mushroom, and cheese omelet. yum! (Yesterday was definitely a day of food indulgences!)
We then continued on our way to Denver to run some errands before going to the Dr. 12:30 came so quickly and before we knew it, it was 1, our paperwork was filled out, and we were walking over to L & D for our ultrasound! We were all just mesmerized by the little baby that popped up on the screen. Ella again didn’t like people touching me, but we got her to concentrate on the baby. The u/s went beautifully.
A “normal” Nuchal Translucency measurement is anything less than 3mm, our measurement came in at 1.08mm. Woo Hoo! Baby Dos was measuring in at 12 weeks 4 days (we were exactly 12 weeks yesterday), a 6.06cm crown-to-rump length which puts this baby in the 87th percentile. And a heart rate of 169 bpm. Ella’s heart rate at this same time, same appointment, was 171 bpm. I think we have another little girl in there! Brad has said since the day I told him I was pregnant that this was a girl!
Anyway, on to the photos of the bean. Sorry for the horrible pictures of pictures!
Head to the right, hands folded over chest.
Head to the right, spine along the top.
Heart Rate 169 bpm
Head, top right, curled up with a long leg!
After the u/s appointment I had to go get my finger poked for the blood part of the appointment and I should have my results in 3-4 days. I was kind of mad at myself as I hadn’t been drinking enough on the way down so we didn’t get the best pictures. Oh well, only 2 more months until we get to see the baby again!
After the appointments were done we headed to the Blue.Bonnet for lunch, love this place. Anyone who lives close enough to Denver to head here, GO! Best Mexican food ever! (In America!) It’s basically at Broadway & Alameda, yum! We ran some more errands after this, an REI trip, and the need to get my hair cut (by a CRAZY lady!) which took forever. Then we met up with some friends for dinner (trust me, a lot of time had actually lapsed and I was starving!) So, we went to this place called Ernie’s Bar & Pizzaria, yum! Delicious (can you tell I’m pregnant by the way I’m talking ridiculously about food?!) Also, a place I would reccomend, not pricey and one of the best Margherita Pizzas I’ve had in a while. I had a whole 10″ pizza myself!
Then it took forever to get home through torrential downpour but it was a great day! Now after my work week of, Monday 1/2 day, Tuesday, whole Day, Wednesday Off, Thursday Full Day. I’m off for my weekend! haha!
Free Family Fun Fest this weekend! Woo Hoo!
****Wow do I love auto post, this was supposed to be up at 8AM yesterday. Thanks blogger!****
As you move into the second trimester, baby shifts into the growth and maturation stage. After weeks in the critical development stage, almost all of baby’s systems are fully formed.
The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Your baby’s fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won’t be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder.
Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby’s brain, synapses are forming furiously. His face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his head, and his ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over 2 inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.
If you look at yesterdays post, you’re caught up with our goings ons around here, so I’ll just go straight to the weekly survey.
How far along: 12 Weeks!
Total Weight gain/loss: I’ve gained back my not wanting to eat weight so I am at 0.
Maternity clothes: Nothing, not even the fat pants, getting closer to fat pants though. Maybe next week?
Stretch Marks: only leftovers
Sleep: pretty darn good. I did not want to get out of bed this morning!
Best Moment this week: Hearing the heartbeat yesterday and seeing Ella’s reaction. Cannot wait for this afternoon seeing the little bean again!
Movement: None that I can feel but the baby was kicking like crazy at the doppler on Monday!
Food cravings: i got my fish & chips (YUM!) Now I really want fresh fruit, and wouldn’t mind some spinach ravioli w/ alfredo sauce from Spaghett.i Factory! I would also still kill for some sushi!
Gender: not sure, kind of feeling girl this week!
Labor Signs: NOPE!
Belly Button in or out?: In
What I miss: Nothing really, I love being pregnant!
What I’m looking forward to: This afternoon’s ultrasound! And being able to feel all of these rolls & kicks & punches!
Weekly Wisdom: Eat several small meals and drink lots of water to avoid the all day nausea. At least that’s what is working for me!
I love weekends in the summer, I get a day alone with Ella and I get to see my husband since I’m not competing with snow!
Friday; Ella and I went to our friend Keaton’s birthday party. Ella had an AWESOME time. She got to play with squirt guns, eat cake & ice cream, smack a pinata (which she was very unsure of until her turn was over, then she REALLY wanted to do it again!), she had a blast!
She stayed up 3 hours past her usual nap time, I had BARELY started the car before I looked back and she was passed out, she then took a 3 hour nap, amazing!
Saturday we just had a family day, got up when we wanted to, went out to breakfast, and then we went to the Alpine Art Fair. I love wandering around and looking at all of the creative things people make. The one booth that really caught my eye was all of the metal work. I couldn’t afford most of what was being offered, but I loved the look of these butterflies!
Here you can see the coloring a little better with some natural lighting (didn’t think to take a picture until this morning on the way to work!)
The guy who makes them is from Oklahoma and he traveled up to Winter Park for this art show. He started out making butterflies in 1974 before he branched out to more things, he stopped making the butterflies about 10 years ago and just this year started making them again. I love them!
Sunday was just a lazy day, we took a few walks, came up to the resort so that we could get Ella’s dependant pass so that she can do all of the resort activites with her class at school!
Ahhhhh! Is that not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?! Totally going in her memory box after this summer. My little monkeys first season pass! And she was so proud, after they printed it out she automatically wasn’t shy anymore. She took her pass and wanted to walk with it, and the kid knew where she was going, she wanted to go straight to the bouncy house! Love it!
Yesterday was an awesome day! I only had to work until 1 (always makes it great when it’s a short work day. Ha!) and then Brad and Ella came to meet me to head to our Dr.’s appointment. We had to wait FOREVER so El was a little grumpy by the time we were ushered into an even smaller space with no toys. The Dr. came in quickly though and got straight to it. Answering questions, feeling around on the belly (Ella screamed “No!” as soon as he touched me, ha!) then when he smeared the doppler goo on my belly “No, Mommy! No! No!” omg it was so funny, she was worried about Mommy. I can’t wait for her reaction at the u/s tomorrow! Anyway, about 10 seconds after the doppler hit my belly there was the best sound in the world, woosh-woosh-woosh-woosh! Amazing! And then when we asked Ella if she could hear the baby, she just got a huge smile on her face, adorable! The Dr. then brought up that at my next appointment it’s the 16 week blood draw so make sure to be super hydrated (I have horribly small, hard to locate veins), and then the appointment after that is the Fetal Anatomy u/s! insane!
After the appointment we went to Tommyknockers and I FINALLY got my Fish & Chips. Totally worth the 3 week wait. =) It was heaven.
Now I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s appointment (we’re taking the whole day off and making a family day of it in the big city!) and then this weekend is the “Free Family Fun Fest” (If anyone lives in driving distance of WP and wants to head up, there are details at http://www.freefamilyfunfest.com/ I can’t tell you how good the details are because of course it’s blocked from work! But it sounds like a good time for kids!) so we’re going to take Ella there, they say on the radio there will be touch a truck (Fire trucks, ambulances, and police cars), bouncy houses, inflatable games, face painting, the list goes on. Ella’s going to love it! Hope everyone has a good week! Hump Day Bump Day tomorrow! 12 weeks already, crazy!
That I don’t want to forget.
Ella is ALL about Elmo. She wakes up in the morning and when you go in to get her, whichever parent didn’t get her, she asks for. Followed by “Elmo?!” then all day long, as soon as she’s bored with an Activity, “Elmo!” She just wants to watch him ALL. the. time.
Well, one of her favorite videos is the “Kids Favorite Songs” where Elmo does a Top 10 Countdown. She loves listening to him count. So, we’ve been working on counting with her, it goes something like this:
Ella: Two (Small Giggle)
Ella: Two (larger giggle)
I’m sure you get the idea, she LOVES the number 2, and the higher you count, the more she says it. The more she says it, the harder she laughs, it is ADORABLE!
We get some pretty crazy lightning storms up here in the mountains. We always watch from our house wondering if it’s going to hit any of the lifts and cause us trouble the next day. Well, Monday night we had hard, hard rains, hail, and some of the craziest lightning I’ve seen in a while. Brad was able to catch a few strikes on camera. Pretty cool!
No clue what happened in this last one, if he moved just right, or what. It ended up as a cool effect though.
Your baby, just over 1 1/2 inches long and about the size of a lime, is now almost fully formed. Her hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under her gums, and some of her bones are beginning to harden. She’s already busy kicking and stretching, and her tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet. These movements will become more frequent as her body grows and becomes more developed and functional. You won’t feel your baby’s acrobatics for another month or two — nor will you notice the hiccupping that may be happening now that her diaphragm is forming.
I bought a gorgeous hazlewood and jade necklace last week. I don’t know if it’s mind over matter or that it’s really working, but I feel SO much better! Nausea is kept to a minimum & I actually feel like eating a lot of the time. AMAZING!
My next Dr’s appointment is this coming Monday and then this a week from today, at exactly 12 weeks I go in for my first trimester testing & ultrasound. So excited to (hopefully) hear the baby via doppler on Monday and then see him/her again on Wednesday! I wonder if our u/s tech would be willing to wager any guesses on Gender, just for fun!
How far along? 11 Weeks
Total weight gain/loss: Back up a little for a total of -2 lbs lost. Thank you necklace for allowing me to eat!
Maternity clothes: This is where I get nervous, I’m not even in fat pants yet. I had some serious bloat yesterday but it was up higher. I know that with Ella at this point I had my fat pants unbuttoned most of the time.
Stretch Marks: Just my leftovers still.
Sleep: Has been excellent!
Best Moment this week: Less nausea, having an amazing weekend with my family, AND then getting to go see HP! Awesome!
Movement: None yet
Food Cravings: Fish & Chips (hopefully this week I’ll get them! Tommyknocker’s here I come!), and BBQ chips, and this week have really wanted some sushi, even if it’s just veggie!! Yum!
Labor signs: Nope!
Belly Button in or out?: Innie
What I Miss: Nothing
What I’m looking forward to: Hearing & seeing the baby this week. And movement, would kill for that feeling!
Weekly Wisdom: Not really wisdom but I bought myself a Bradley Method workbook and am going to try to pump myself up for a VBAC. Although very scared at how things will go this time. We’ll see!
Milestones: We made it another week!
Ella started her transition to the Toddler room at school this week. The wait until they’re 18 months. Yesterday was her first day and I have heard nothing but amazing things about how well she did and how she wanted nothing to do with the infant room! My big girl!
This weekend was quite low key and relaxing. Friday night we did dinner with our neighbors and made some last minute plans to go camping, rain or shine. Well, we got both rain & shine but it was an awesome time.
Ella LOVED playing Cornhole.
We ate some dinner cooked 100% over an open flame (just makes things taste better)
Then we let Ella & Kasen ride their 4-wheelers, does it look like they had fun?
And yes, Kasen wanted to trade so he’d have the pink one. Haha
After a couple hours (oh yes) of 4-wheelers and running around like crazies, it was bed time.
The next morning though, those 2 were back at it.
Kasen: “Hey Rachel, take my picture like this!”
“Now take my picture like this!”
Kasen: “Rachel, take a picture of the clouds.” Me: Kasen, there aren’t many clouds to take pictures of.” Kasen: “Well, take a picture of up.” Okay, here’s up.
Oh yes, a good time was had by all. Sunday morning we were all pooped. We made it home about noon and Ella went down for a nap, so did Brad. So, I got the chance to go see the new Harry Potter. LOVED. IT. I must admit, I shed a few tears, even if I hadn’t read the books and known what was coming, I still would have shed a few tears because there were some sad parts, and I am admittedly, a cryer. But, I did not turn in to a bawling, snorting, mess like this one woman in the theatre did. Oh my goodness, craziness. But yes, it was a very good movie. I’m kind of sad it’s over, but it had to happen some time.
So we all had a great weekend and we each got to do things we were looking forward to. Now, I just need a nap to catch up. =)
Your Baby: Week 10
With bones and cartilage starting to form and vital organs beginning to function, baby is making major progress. Body length will almost double in the next three weeks, and arm joints are now working. (Soon, legs will too.)
Your baby now has completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature. If you could take a peek inside your womb, you’d spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin.
I cannot believe that we’re already at the 10 week mark, 25% of the way complete! It’s so exciting! This week has been rough though, youu’ve read about my weekend and now the past 3 days I have been totally nauseous all day long, I can’t eat anything without getting crazy heartburn, and I just want to sleep! Which Ella is not helping out with the crack of dawn wake ups!
Brad is getting more and more excited as the days go by, talking about how it’s going to be so crazy but fun. It took a while for the shock to wear off for him, but now he is loving this. It’s so cute! We were looking through name books last night (jump the gun much) but only because I have a million and 7 girls names that I love, but no boy names. So, of course I am convinced it’s going to be a boy and he won’t be named.
My hormones are insane this week, I am a super emotional mess. I didn’t get like this with Ella, it doesn’t help with all of these horrible news stories going on, children disappearing and being murdered. I cry over everything. A friend that I hadn’t spoken to in years posted that she had to put her dog down (since I hadn’t spoken to her I therefore had never met said dog) and I sat at the computer and bawled for about 5 minutes. Thank goodness it was just me, if anyone would have walked in they would have though 1. someone close to me had died, or 2. I’m psycho. Hopefully that little symptom eases up soon!
How far along? 10 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: -3.5lbs according to my home scale, being sick this weekend and nauseous everyday sure curbs the appetite!
Maternity clothes? No where near ready for that yet, pants aren’t tight yet
stretch marks? Just the leftovers from Ella
Sleep: Pretty good, still
Best moment this week: Ella wants to read books about babies. She’ll point at me and then put her hands up and say “BABY!”
Movement: Not yet
Food cravings: FISH & CHIPS! This still, but I could vomit just hearing the words chicken or cheddar cheese. Keep those away please!
Gender: A boy who shall remain nameless? Or a girl who I’d really have to narrow it down on!
Labor Signs: Thank goodness, no!
Belly Button in or out? Innie
What I miss: Not a thing
What I am looking forward to: Movement! I miss that feeling!
Weekly Wisdom: Sleeping at work should not be frowned upon.
Milestones: 1/4 of the way there already!
Ella’s new obsession is Blueberry muffins, loves them! So, I picked up a box of muffin mix (don’t judge, I’m pregnant & exhausted!) and we got to work on some muffins last night.
She wanted to bake with Mommy but she wanted NOTHING to do with being worn, so in to her high chair she went.
We got our mix in the bowl, measured out the oil:
Got our eggs out and ready for cracking!:
Then we stirred until her little heart was content!:
After she was confident that she had stirred enough, Mommy greased the muffin tins and filled them appropriately.
The result? She wanted nothing to do with pictures because she wanted to eat her muffin!
All in all it was a fun time and Ella LOVES to “bok” (bake).
