My Little Cling-On

When Ella was about 6 months old she would not let you put her down. It caused major melt downs. When she was about 9 months old, this stopped and she became majorly independant unless someone new was around.
Now, at almost 13 months old, the cling on has returned! If you try to set her down, she looks at you as if you’ve just stomped on her little heart and lets out the most pitiful, gasping for air, cries that you have ever heard.
Please lord let this phase pass again quickly! I would thank you, my dishes and laundry would thank you too!

A week of Firsts

This week was been a little rough. It started last Friday with the Parenting Fail! so those were Ella’s first injury and first blood. Boo!
Tuesday evening Ella felt warm, I took her temperature and she was running at 99.6. Some of you may laugh at this but for a kid that usually runs right around 97, I could tell, and this was warm for her. Later in the evening she hit 100 so I gave her some ibuprofen to help her sleep because she was not herself. The next day she was home with Brad and hit 100.8 before he gave her some medicine for it. Then yesterday morning, she hit 101.2 so we took her to the Dr. She was diagnosed with an ear infection. We caught it WAY early I guess so it’s good that we can read our little girl and know when something is wrong. We were able to get her on antibiotics before it hit the worst and could keep her pain away. But, these marked her first fever and her first ear infection.
The cold she has that lead to the ear infection was passed on to me, of course. So instead of blabbing away I’m just going to leave you with a lot of pictures from last weekend. =)
Here is Brad testing out Ella’s new chair.

And here’s how Ella felt about Daddy in her chair! Ha!

 Kasen “holding” Ella
 Trying out her new goggles.
We call this the Slingblade Look!
 We talked on the phone.

And then we rode our Zebra

When Daddy got home from skiing, he was ready for a nap on the new Pillow Pet (thanks Mamaw!)
So the little El Monkey wanted to join in
 Ahhhh. . . . . .

Random little Tidbits

I had this great post title in my mind, but it was a million miles long. Therefore, you’ll have to be happy with the title that I have given you. =)

So, to finally explain my greasy hair in the birthday party pictures; we had a frozen pipe, kind of. I went to take a shower a couple of hours before the party was supposed to start, SCALDING hot water came out. As soon as I tried to push the nozzle all the way over to cold, the water shut off. It was “Burn Your Skin Off” hot, or nothing. I chose nothing. Every other tap in the house worked perfectly fine, cold, hot, and even warm water came out. The only one that was a mystery, was of course, the only shower in the house. It took 2 days to trace where the pipe was frozen! In the wall, behind the shower wall, JUST above the subflooring. So we* borrowed a heat gun from work, got back in to the crawl space and thawed that sucker out. Finally able to take a shower!
*By we, I mean Brad fixed everything!

Ella went in this past Monday, the 7th (yes, Brad’s birthday!) for her 12 month shots. They started with her finger prick for her hemoglobin check and she did awesome. She got a weird look on her face but was more intrigued by the bright orange band aid that they were encasing her finger in. But then, when we laid her on the table and held her down, she knew what was up and was not happy. The first 2 shots, she did okay but she cried which broke my heart. For the 3rd shot, the nurse says “This one hurts the most”, of course and Ella screamed! My poor baby girl. I didn’t even wait for her to get the 2nd bandaid, I had Ella in my arms and nursing so fast. She was so good after that. She nursed for about 5 minutes and was ready to get those pants back on and get out the door! She passed out in the car and napped for about an hour and a half longer when we got home. Such a brave little girl!

Oh Happy Day! I haven’t pumped in a week! Woo Hoo! Ella took to Whole Milk amazingly well so we only diluted with breast milk for a couple of days. Ella is still nursing 3-4 times in a 24 hour period so I know she’s getting enough of everything that she needs. The whole milk had her super constipated up until just yesterday. Now she seems to be feeling so much better (well, until you throw in a busted lip! Grrrr!)

Something un-Ella related. On Wednesday morning I was taking my friend Jessica to the airport after a nice little visit with her. We were talking about Avalanches and how I have lived here for over 9 years and have never seen one. Well, Ella and I got Jessica dropped at the airport, ran our errands, and had gotten off of 70 and heading towards the pass when we saw a line of cars in front of us and 2 CDOT snowplows accross the road. I kept checking the CDOT website on my phone and didn’t see anything about highway 40 being closed. I went back one last time and saw a “Severe” link, I clicked on it and of course it said something to the effect that “Highway 40 – Berthoud Pass was closed intermittently for avalanche control.” I was frustrated because I just wanted to get home. I called Brad to complain and as I was talking to him I heard a little boom, then I heard 2 more. So I could hear them bombing. As I’m talking to Brad I see a helicoptor come from behind one of the peaks up towards this huge bowl, then I heard a huge BOOM and saw it, one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. An avalanche. You could see where the bomb exploded, then you watched the fracture, and the slide. It was gorgeous! Luckily it didn’t make it all the way down to the road so we were able to start moving about 2 minutes after watching it.

Ella is doing so many fun new things! There are words that she has been saying for what seems like forever now like, Mama, Dada, Hi, & bye, but recently she’s been adding in new things. Cheese (with a big toothy grin!), Pup pup = Puppy, iss = kiss followed by the cutest little mouth you’ve seen coming at you, ease = please, “No, no, no” (we all know what that means!), kit = kitty. She is picking up words so quickly now!
When she is in the bath tub playing with all of her toys, if you say “Quack Quack” she stops what she is doing, gets her rubber duck, and hands it to you. If you ask her “Ella, where are your feet?” she will try to raise both feet out of the water to show to you. Her favorite thing to do in the bath tub is stand up! But, she’s very good and when you say “Sit on your Bottom” she does, for about 5 seconds. Haha.
Things she will respond to verbally are; Sit on Your Bottom, Can I have that please, and Come here. When you tell her “No thank you” (instead of just yelling no at your child!) she gives you the biggest grin because she knows she is busted. At dinner time, it doesn’t matter what you give her, she blows on it to cool it down. It’s so cute, mac and cheese, meats, veggies, I understand all those; but she also blows on her yogurt, her straw for her milk, so funny!
The most exciting thing that has happened recently, how many steps she can take now! If Brad and I are sitting about 5 feet apart, she will take 6-8 steps with no help from us going back and forth in between us. If she is holding on to one of us, or the couch, she will let go and walk to you. Of course on Wednesday night the camcorder battery was dead. So, I charged it all up after she went to bed ready to record her walking for you guys to see, she threw a FIT every time I got it out last night and would not walk when it was in the room. Hopefully tonight we can get her on camera!
If you have made it through this far, congrats! I will reward you with some blurry camera phone pics! Haha!
Here is Ella in a Colts Hat that my mom made her.

And here she is playing with her Zebra. All she wanted to do this day was go back and forth between her slide and her Zebra, she LOVES them!

Parenting Fail

I had this wonderful post all written out in my head to tell everyone about all these great things that Ella is doing, and then this morning happened. I will write that happy post later today, but I can’t get my Mommy Fail off of my mind so this comes out first.
This morning, Ella woke up right as my alarm was going off and wouldn’t go back to sleep. I still had to get everything for both her and I ready for the day so I let her fuss for a little bit while i started to get her diapers ready. Well, the extra soakers weren’t dry yet so I started the dryer and went to get Ella. I nursed her for a few minutes and then set her down so that I could get our lunches ready. She was playing in the living room so I went to check on the diapers and as I opened the dryer (maybe 45 seconds had elapsed) I heard a big crash and then crying. I run in to the lving room, no Ella. I look into the kitchen and there she is, lying on the floor, cabinet door open, her face in the cabinet. I pick her up thinking it just scared her, I saw blood! I freaked out!All I could think was “OMG, she’d better be okay” and about how I was SO mad at Brad because I have been asking him for 2 months to put the cabinet locks on!
She absolutely had a busted bottom lip that was bleeding but wouldn’t let me see in her mouth. Brad came out and was holding her so I could get a washcloth to clean her up and some ice. She also hit her top gum as she was bleeding right around the tooth that is coming in. My poor baby! After we stopped prodding around in her mouth she seemed better. By this point I had her cleaned up, had put some neosporin on her lip, and given her some ibuprofen so that hopefully it wouldn’t hurt her during the day.
On our way to work she was back to her babbling self, and then as I was getting her “dressed” (it’s pajama day) to go to school she was doing fine but her lip kept opening back up and bleeding a bit. When we got to school she squealed with glee like usual when we opened the door, so I knew she was feeling okay. I put some vaseline on her lip so that it hopefully will not continue to open throughout the day, and the teachers know to call me if she needs anything or if it seems like it’s hurting her and she needs some more ibuprofen. I feel just miserable about this though!
This is the worst part of parenthood!

I did it!

Please excuse the lovely self portraits. Haha!

Ella’s Birthday; Part 2 of 2

Party Time!
*****Warning: This is also a heavy Photo Post! Beware of cuteness overload!!*****

While Ella was naping, Mommy was running around like a chicken with her head cut off trying to get everything ready to go. While things were cooking I decided I was going to take a shower, a very quick one, so I wouldn’t look absolutely gross for the party. **(As you will see from Pictures below, this didn’t work to my favor!)
Ella woke up from her nap about 10 minutes before he party was due to start so she was well rested. I got her dressed and just as we were ready to walk out of her bedroom, there was a knock on the door. Ella’s party had officially begun!
Here is Ella’s smash cake!

 And the guest cake!

Ella had such a blast playing with her little friends!

After we all had our dinner, it was time for the cake!

She was really unsure of it and didn’t really want anything to do with the cake. . . . . .

. . . . . .So, Daddy shoved it in her face!
She still wasn’t feeling it.

She kept reaching for our forks, so we gave her a fork.

After that it was game on!

Honestly, who’s 1 year old eats their smash cake with a fork!?
After cake it was time for gifts.

As you can see, this gift from Ning Ning was the perfect size to climb up and sit on.

She had a great birthday! She loved her cake, she loved seeing all of her friends, it was a great day!
After all of the guests had left we took some time to pose for pictures with Mommy and Daddy!

I didn’t really take any pictures of the decor, I made Pom Poms that were hung over the food table and then throughout our living room. And then here is a picture of the birthday banner that I made her:

That is a horrible picture thanks to the lighting and the flash, but trust me, it’s awesome! 😉

I hope you enjoyed our memories from Ella’s Birthday, it was such an amazing day and I cannot believe my little girl is 1!

Ella’s Birthday; Part 1 of 2

Birthday Morning!!!

*****Warning: Picture Heavy Post! Haha!!*****

Ella slept amazingly well leading in to her birthday. She woke up once at 1:30 to nurse and was right back asleep until 7:15 or so. She got up, nursed (as I said, we’re keeping the morning, bed time, and night time nursing sessions. She’s on whole milk during the day) and we got Daddy up and went out to open presents. We set her down in front of her new toy box:

Oh boy, was that cool or what! She made a couple of circles around it, checked out the stickers on the sides, and then, her eyes met the “Anywhere Chair” and it was love! I’ve never seen that kid move so fast!

As you can see, she then spotted the rest of her presents from Mommy and Daddy. Since she seems to completely get the idea of presents now, she sat on her throne chair and proceeded to open her gifts!

Oooh, Each Peach Pear Plum, Classic!

Ooooh, Baby Stella! She loves her new baby and hugs her ALL the time!

Last from us was a tent with a tunnel, it was a hit as you can see!
After all of the excitement of presents, it was time for breakfast.

Yum, Cheesy scrambled eggs and some whole milk! Breakfast fit for a Birthday Princess!
After that, she was so excited she had to give Cassidy some loving!

By this time, Ella was feeling kind of sleepy so she took her first nap as a 1 year old. After her nap we went and met with our Mortgage broker about our refinance (Ella, was loving everyminute of that! Not!) and then we went out to lunch. Ella had a Birthday Quesadilla and some rice, beans, and guace. She’s turning in to such a good eater!
We then went home, Ella took another nap and Mommy and Daddy got ready for the party! Which is part 2 which I will post shortly! So far we were having an AWESOME day!
