38 Weeks down, maybe 2 to go?!

Wow, I wonder if we’ll make it to 40 weeks. I think my guess is that she’s going to be born by the 25th. But, if she isn’t then she’ll be a little late and it will be February 3rd. Brad just wants her to make it to the 21st so she can be an Aquarius like her daddy.
This week I actually left my house on Friday to have some adult conversation! A friend of mine gets a Moms group together every couple of weeks and I was invited. It was so nice to have a change of scenery and just be out of the house and have people to talk to! I think I’m going a little stir crazy with it being JUST me all day long. I can’t wait until Ella is here to at least have a human companion. Not that the dogs and cats aren’t fun to talk to, haha.
The weekends are fun because I can watch Football. And can I say Heck Yeah about the Colts winning last night. Woo hoo, that excites me. Other then that it’s been a quiet week. I’ve been trying to get some work done from home but I am relying on some people at work to get me some figures that I need. What a pain in the butt! 2 out of the 3 people have gotten back to me but I am at a stand still until this last person gets me her numbers. It just stinks because I don’t know how much time I have before the baby comes and I need to get things done and get Alicia trained before she gets here! I’m trying not to get stressed about it, but it obviously isn’t a hard task I’m asking for, just a lazy someone I’m waiting on!
One super exciting thing that happened this week, I reconnected with 2 AMAZING friends on Facebook that I haven’t talked to since before Brad and I got married! It’s been about 3 1/2 years and I missed them! The even more fun part is they both have recently also just had their first child, both little girls! Hopefully we can get a little reunion together soon!

I think we’re officially to the point where all of the bags are packed and ready to go. Most of them just stay in my car except for the lap top and the camera bag, don’t want those to get too cold. And those are easy enough where they are just sitting on the couch inside the door, ready to go at a moments notice. It was so cute on Thursday night, Brad wasn’t feeling too great (he wasn’t sick, he doesn’t get sick. =) ) so he wanted to take some Nyquil so he could get some sleep. He must have asked me 5 times if I thought anything was going to happen because otherwise he wasn’t taking the Nyquil. Then last night he comes home telling me about a storm we’re supposed to get next weekend, and if I haven’t gone in to labor by then he’s going to book a hotel room and we’re going to Denver for the weekend. He’s so cute. Yesterday we were going to have Alicia and Darren over for dinner to watch the Colts game with us, Brad wanted all day tacos. I love all day tacos but if I smell them cooking all day I CANNOT eat them, it makes me nauseaous. Well, I woke up to a note telling me he had them cooking in the crock pot in the garage so the smell wouldn’t bother me. =)

How far along? 38 Weeks!
Total weight gain/loss: + 38 lbs.

Maternity clothes? Yep, and some of the shirts are getting short since my tummy is dropping.
stretch marks? Oh yes
Sleep: Actually, it hasn’t been too bad lately. I think the bed rest is agreeing with my sleep pattern.
Best moment this week: Brad and his nervousness. And reconnecting with old friends!
Movement: Yep, not quite as often but she lets me know she’s there.
Food cravings: Dried Mango, I can’t get enough. Probably not helping with weight gain. Haha.
Gender: A little girl!
Labor Signs: Braxton hicks and period like cramping.
Belly Button in or out? 1/2 & 1/2
What I miss: Bending over like a skinny girl, and really, other skinny girl activities that aren’t easy anymore. Haha
What I am looking forward to: Meeting my daughter!
Weekly Wisdom: Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Milestones: 38 weeks! Crazy! I cannot wait to meet our daughter!
Your baby has really plumped up. She weighs about 6.8 pounds and she’s over 19 1/2 inches long (like a leek). She has a firm grasp, which you’ll soon be able to test when you hold her hand for the first time! Her organs have matured and are ready for life outside the womb. Wondering what color your baby’s eyes will be? You may not be able to tell right away. If she’s born with brown eyes, they’ll likely stay brown. If she’s born with steel gray or dark blue eyes, they may stay gray or blue or turn green, hazel, or brown by the time she’s 9 months old. That’s because a child’s irises (the colored part of the eye) may gain more pigment in the months after she’s born, but they usually won’t get “lighter” or more blue. (Green, hazel, and brown eyes have more pigment than gray or blue eyes.)

And now for some photos!
Well, I hope everyone has a great week! I’ll update more after my appointment on Tuesday! I can’t believe we’re at 38 weeks already!!!

The long awaited dance moves!

So, I’m attempting to upload this video of Ella moving around on Tuesday night. Of course she was going ABSOLUTELY crazy before I got up to get the camcorder. But, she starts going NUTS towards the middle of it, big movements! I hope this works for everyone. And please disregard the stretch marks that you can see, i.e. the LOVELY one protruding from where my piercing was!

Yay! It seems to have worked!Enjoy! I will try to get some longer footage later, I just need to keep the camcorder handy!

Boredom

So, bed rest got a little boring today. I decided to play in the nursery a bit, I got tired pretty quickly so I still have a pile of laundry to do, clothes she was given for Christmas and at our second shower mostly. But also, a couple of blankets, swaddle me’s, and a boppy cover. I got our Pack N Play and travel system registered online, I then put together the bouncer that I LOVED (oh yes, I bought it) and registered that also. I got the changing area organized and all of her bath stuff put away. I was quite proud of myself but now I am exhausted. So much for a walk with the dogs today, we’ll go tomorrow.
So, for your viewing pleasure here are some pictures that I took.
The bouncer, Love it!:

Her changing area with her adorable ladybug changing pad cover!:

Her diaper pail, humidifier that will come out of the box sometime soon I’m sure, and her basket full of toys and stuffed animals (well, some of them) that everyone has given her already!:

And yes, that is a hammer sitting on her dresser/changer. I am STILL waiting for Brad to hang the wall letters (hint hint!) so that will be gone as soon as they are hung. I would really like for it to be out of the room. I would also like to get some pictures to hang on the wall but I don’t know what I want yet. I think the pack n play is good and aired out by now so I’ll be packing it up to give us some more moving room in the nursery. We need to get the co sleeper set up and I would still like to buy a sleep positioner in case she doesn’t like being swaddled. Then, when things are a little more organized I’ll take some pictures of the full room and put those up. Almost finished!
And with that, I’m going to drink some water and get back to bed rest! =)

37 Week appointment & prenatal massage

So, todays appointment went great, BP was down to 108/70. So, while the bed rest continues, we know that it’s helping. And since my BP improved so much over the weekend I’m back to once a week appointments instead of having to go twice a week! I got permission to play some games on the Wii, as long as I don’t do the boxing, haha. And I also asked about going on little walks around the neighborhood with the dogs and was told that would be fine as well. So, as long as it starts warming up during the day I can leave the house for a little bit at a time and get some exercise.
The prenatal massage was wonderful! There was so much tension in my neck & shoulders and 100 times that amount in my lower back. I feel amazing now and I know I’ll sleep well tonight. The best part was they had a cut out for my tummy so I actually got to lay on my stomach for a while, wow do I miss sleeping on my stomach!
Since I went down by myself today, I was able to do a little shopping for Brads birthday since I won’t be able to go, or feel like going I’m sure, once Ella is here. Also, I went to target and they had so many cute sleepers on clearance and some cute little outfits too. I got her 6 sleepers and outfits and the most expensive one was $3. Most of them though were anywhere from $1.74-$2.50, it was great. I alos bought a “belly bandit” so we’ll see how that works. It’s supposed to keep your muscles where they’re supposed to be after delivery (you wear it for 6 weeks) and that helps you avoid that post pregnancy “pooch”. Hopefully it works.
Anyway, that’s about all, I’ll keep everyone updated throughout the week if anything exciting happens. I know we need to take Rocky to the vet at some point this week, he’s due for shots. Woo, exciting!

37 Weeks: Full Term!

So, we made it, we’re now at 37 weeks. Ella is officially full term and can come on out whenever she wants to. Although, Full term goes until 42 weeks and then she’ll be over due. So, I could have up to 5 weeks left before the midwives will start talking induction as long as my blood pressure cooperates. Haha, we’ll have to see if she likes to be early like her mommy or always fashionably late like daddy. =)
Today has been a busy day for being on bed rest, I was on the phone all morning it seemed. I was talking to my mom and one of my sisters and Brad kept sending text messages, which I couldn’t answer since I was on the phone. Finally he calls so I switched over and he is freaking out thinking something is wrong. Of course since nothing was wrong, it was quite cute to me. But he says next time to tell them I have to call them right back because I have to call Brad and let him know I’m okay. I love him. =) Also this morning I woke up at about 4:30 to some insane kicking and dancing going on in my tummy. Brad had rolled over and his hand was barely on my stomach but she sure wnated to let him know that she knew he was there. A little daddy’s girl already, she was quite excited.
After I got off the phone with Brad and my family I had a visitor, our friend Debbe stopped by and brought us a little gift for Ella as well as a meal to freeze so I’d have at least one night after we got back from the hospital that we wouldn’t have to worry about it. So she stayed and we talked for quite a while, and watched the Patriots get beat! That sure made for an exciting day for me.
Now in a little bit Brad is going to bring something home for dinner so neither of us has to worry about cooking, yay!
Now, looking towards next week I have my 37 week appointment tomorrow morning and we’ll see from there if they want me to continue going in twice a week. Hopefully I’ll get some sleep tonight and won’t feel like murdering dogs so my BP won’t be up. And then, after that appointment I will get to go down to Denver and get my prenatal massage. I am so looking forward to that! My midwife appointment is at 10:30 and the massage is at 1 so I’ll have some time to get some lunch and maybe buy a couple of last minute baby things that I forgot when brad and I went shopping since I was still in shock over bed rest.
I’ve been able to get some work done this week since my boss checked a lap top out for me so I can do some work from home and still make some money. I believe it has wifi so I should be able to bring it to the hospital with me and update a little from there, especially once she makes her arrival! Now lets just see when she feels like coming! =)

How far along? 37 weeks! Officially full term!
Total weight gain/loss: I was up 37 lbs as of Tuesday, a lb a week isn’t bad!

Maternity clothes? Oh yes
stretch marks? No new ones to report, and the old ones are starting to fade a little already!
Sleep: not too bad in the overall scheme of things. I got 11 hours Friday night (after none on Thursday) and then I got a good 10 hours last night, with only 1 potty break each night. Woo Hoo!
Best moment this week: Feeling Ella so excited about daddy this morning, hearing that I’d lost weight, catching up on some sleep.
Movement: Oh yes, she’s still a dancing queen. Even though the movements are softer at times she isn’t slowing down at all.
Food cravings: Dried mango and apple juice.
Gender: Our little girl!
Labor Signs: Some pressure like she’s moving in to place and daily period like cramping.
Belly Button in or out? Half and half. I don’t think the bottom half is letting it self go anywhere! Hold on for dear life buddy!
What I miss: Being able to pick things up (that I have dropped at least once) gracefully.
What I am looking forward to: Meeting my daughter!
Weekly Wisdom: You don’t feel lazy being in pjs most of the day when it’s Dr. ordered. =)

Milestones: Making it to full term! I couldn’t be happier! We could meet her any day! My guess is any time between the 14th and the 25th, but we’ll see, it could be Valentine’s day!
Congratulations — your baby is full term! This means that if your baby arrives now, her lungs should be fully mature and ready to adjust to life outside the womb, even though your due date is still three weeks away.
Your baby weighs 6 1/3 pounds and measures a bit over 19 inches, head to heel (like a stalk of Swiss chard). Many babies have a full head of hair at birth, with locks from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches long. But don’t be surprised if your baby’s hair isn’t the same color as yours. Dark-haired couples are sometimes thrown for a loop when their children come out as blonds or redheads, and fair-haired couples have been surprised by Elvis look-alikes. And then, of course, some babies sport only peach fuzz.
Baby is gaining about 1/2 ounce a day and getting her first sticky poop (called meconium) ready. She’s also brushing up on skills for the outside world: blinking, sucking, inhaling, exhaling, and gripping (it’s getting strong!).

And now for some pictures!

And just for fun, a collage:
How fun! Well, I will update sometime tomorrow I’m sure, after I get home from a heavenly massage! Hope everyone has a great week! And can I just mention how fun it was to watch the Patriots lose in the first round of the playoffs today?! Loved it!

Birth Plan

So, I just created this birth plan online, can anyone think of anything else that I have mentioned I would like that I need to add in?

Our Wishes for Childbirth – Rachel E. Hawkins

Due Date: 01/31/2010
Patient of Colorado Midwives
Scheduled to deliver at PSLMC

01/09/2010

I understand that things have to change sometimes, but these are my wishes for how I would like birth to go.

Sincerely,
Rachel Hawkins

Labor

  • I would like to be free to walk around during labor.
  • I wish to be able to move around and change position at will throughout labor.
  • I would like to be able to have fluids by mouth throughout the first stage of labor.
  • I will be bringing my own music to play during labor.
  • I do not want an IV unless I become dehydrated.

Monitoring

  • I do not wish to have continuous fetal monitoring unless it is required by the condition of My Daughter.
  • I do not want an internal monitor unless My Daughter has shown some sign of distress.

Labor Augmentation/Induction

  • If labor is not progressing, I would like to have the amniotic membrane ruptured before other methods are used to augment labor.
  • I would prefer to be allowed to try changing position and other natural methods (walking, nipple stimulation) before Pitocin is administered.

Anesthesia/Pain Medication

  • I realize that many pain medications exist. I’ll ask for them if I need them.

Cesarean

  • Unless absolutely necessary, I would like to avoid a Cesarean.
  • I would like My Husband present at all times if My Daughter requires a Cesarean delivery.

Episiotomy

  • I would prefer not to have an episiotomy unless absolutely required for My Daughters  safety.
  • I am hoping to protect the perineum. I am practicing ahead of time by squatting, doing Kegel exercises and perineal massage.
  • I would appreciate guidance in when to push and when to stop pushing so the perineum can stretch.
  • If possible, I would like to use perineal massage to help avoid the need for an episiotomy.
  • I would like a local anesthetic to repair a tear or an episiotomy.

Delivery

  • I would like to be allowed to choose the position in which I give birth, including squatting.
  • I would like My Husband and/or nurses to support me and my legs as necessary during the pushing stage.
  • I would like a mirror available so I can see My Daughters head when it crowns.
  • Even if I am fully dilated, and assuming My Daughter is not in distress, I would like to try to wait until I feel the urge to push before beginning the pushing phase.
  • I would like to have My Daughter placed on my stomach/chest immediately after delivery.

Immediately After Delivery

  • I would like to have My Husband cut the cord.
  • I would prefer that the umbilical cord stop pulsating before it is clamped/cut.
  • I would like to hold My Daughter while I deliver the placenta and any tissue repairs are made.
  • I would like to have My Daughter evaluated and bathed in my presence, if at all possible.
  • If My Daughter must be taken from me to receive medical treatment, My Husband or some other person I designate will accompany her at all times.
  • After the birth, I would prefer to be given a few moments of privacy to urinate on my own before being catheterized.

Postpartum

  • Unless required for health reasons, I do not wish to be separated from my baby.
  • I would like to have My Daughter “room in” and be with me at all times.

Breastfeeding

  • I plan to breastfeed My Daughter and would like to begin nursing very shortly after birth.
  • Unless medically necessary, I do not wish to have any bottles given to My Daughter (including glucose water or plain water).
  • I would like to meet with a lactation consultant.

Photo/Video

  • I would like to take still photographs during labor and the birth.
  • I would like to make a videorecording of labor and/or the birth.

Other

  • My support person(s) is/are my Husband and I would like them to be present during labor and/or delivery.

BP Appointment

So todays appointment was a pretty good one. My BP was back up to 120/80 but I was happy it was that low after the night I had. Cassidy kept me up all night long barking, seriously every 20-40 minutes she would just start barking at NOTHING! Finally at about 4:30 this morning after yealling at her about 50 times already I went out and forced her into the bedroom and she was smart enough after that to just hide in the corner and not make a peep. I however was so pissed off I couldn’t get to sleep. So yes, very happy it was ONLY 120/80. My group B Strep test came back negative so I won’t have to have an IV during labor. And the OB said that unless my blood pressure went up to around 160/110 in the next couple weeks that we wouldn’t have to worry about an IV for the blood pressure during labor. Thank goodness. So yes, all in all a good appointment. I go back on Monday morning and I’m going to call the massage place this afternoon to see if I can get an appointment for Monday afternoon for my prenatal massage, boy do I need it. =)
I’ll do the weekly update on Sunday, hope everyone has a good weekend. =)

Tuesdays Appointment

So, I’m going to have to retract my statement that bed rest sucks. It is working so therefore not fully a bad thing. My BP was down to 112/82 and the swelling in my ankles was completely gone. My favorite part of the whole appointment?! First off, the lady told me last week I was up 39 lbs and I was really only up 38 and then to make that even better, after my week of bed rest I lost another lb so I’m only up 37! Woo hoo! I actually lost a lb by sitting on my butt, love it!
But, moral of the story is, since bed rest is working I am now on bed rest for the duration of this pregnancy. I also am now going to appointments twice a week to keep an eye on my blood pressure, so that if it does go on the rise we can induce and get her out when we need to. So, Brad and I are headed back on Friday morning. Ella’s head continues to get lower and the midwife said she can feel that I’ve dropped. She can now get a full hand in between my breast plate and uterus, this kid is moving south. Plus now instead of feet up in my ribs constantly they are in an area about 2 inches lower. She can still reach them up there but not nearly as often and I don’t feel like I’m going to break her little foot every time I bend over, haha.
After the appointment yesterday we went to Walmart and got everything else that I needed to have my bags completely packed, so that’s done. Then on our way back to the house we stopped at the post office and there waiting for me were the extra pages I ordered for her baby book! So, that is all put together and ready to go also. Now we just need labor to start on its own, sometime after Sunday.
That’s about all for now I suppose. I’ll update again after Fridays appointment, unless something super exciting happens before then. Like my Grandma’s 89th birthday tomorrow! Happy Birthday Grandma!
Hope everyone has a good rest of their week.

36 Weeks and bed rest sucks!

I really cannot wait until Tuesday. I actually have hopes that go either way, although bed rest is extremely boring I feel quite relaxed although very bored. I plan on packing my bags either tonight or tomorrow so that they’ll be ready to go. Which means I need to do a load of laundry and get everything ready. I also need to figure out what is going to be most comfortable to wear home from the hospital.
I feel like Ella has dropped, I know on Thursday they said that her head was engaged and now in the past couple days, after some uncomfortable pressure down below, I can breathe easier. I don’t think my belly really looks like it has dropped but I definitely am not taking as many deep breaths nor do I feel like I am suffocating at times. I’m hoping on Tuesday they’ll do an internal (who says that?!) and that I will at least have started dialating. My dream is to be at least 4 or 5 centimeters dialated before heading to the hospital so that I can be in the transitional stage on the way down and it will be too late for drugs by the time I get there so that I won’t be bothered with people asking me about them constantly. =)
There isn’t really much exciting to talk about this week. With not going to work I’ve been able to sleep a little better and my back doesn’t hurt at the end of the day. I haven’t had the need to stand under a scalding hot shower for 20+ minutes just so that I could lay down without pain. Those two factors are quite nice.
Before bed rest started on Friday I actually got most of the shopping done that I wanted to on Thursday after the appointment. I forgot about a couple things but I was still in shock over the whole idea of high blood pressure and bed rest.
How far along? 36 weeks! 1 more week and I’m full term!
Total weight gain/loss: +39 lbs, how depressing!

Maternity clothes? Oh yes
stretch marks? Oh yes
Sleep: Better this week.
Best moment this week: It’s now January, we get to meet our little girl this month!
Movement: All the time still. Maybe slowing down a little but not much.
Food cravings: Nothing, I’ve cut out the apple juice, hopefully we’ll see my weight gain slow down with that.
Gender: A little girl!
Labor Signs: I had some period like cramping on New Years Day, it lasted about half an hour or so.
Belly Button in or out? Still half and half.
What I miss: Being able to leave my house, hahaha.
What I am looking forward to: Meeting Ella, hopefully sooner then later if I have to stay on bed rest. At this point I’m not thinking we’ll make it to the due date anyway. (Now that I’ve jinxed myself she’ll be 2 weeks late, haha.
Weekly Wisdom: Don’t get stressed out!

Milestones: I’m only a week away from full term! Hang in there for one more week Ella, then you can come whenever you want!
And the websites say:
Your baby is gaining about an ounce a day. She now weighs almost 6 pounds (like a crenshaw melon) and is more than 18 1/2 inches long. She’s shedding most of the downy hair that covered her body, as well as the vernix caseosa, the waxy substance that protected her skin during her nine-month amniotic bath. Next week, your baby will be considered full-term. Most likely she’s in a head-down position, but if she isn’t, your practitioner may suggest scheduling an external cephalic version, where she’ll try to turn your baby by manipulating her from the outside of your belly. (Ella’s head is locked and loaded where it should be!) Baby’s skin is getting smooth and soft, her gums are rigid, her liver and kidneys are in working order, and her circulation and immune system are basically good to go. Her lungs are the only organs that still need to fully mature, but every day she gets a little closer to breathing on her own.

And pictures, like I said, I don’t really think I look like I’ve dropped but I feel like I have:

And, here is a picture of my hand, not too sure how well you can see the bruise but it was a lot darker in person!
Okay, I hope everyone has a great week, I’ll update at some point on Tuesday and let you know how everything is going! Or if something amazingly exciting happens tomorrow. Haha

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a great new years eve. We went out to dinner with Darren, Alicia, and Kasen and then came back here and broke in the new Wii that we just bought with some of our Christmas money. Now after Ella comes all we have to do is buy the Wii Fit accessory so that I can work out at home and I’ll be a happy camper.
Day one of bed rest is almost over, phew. It was kind of boring but nice and relaxing. Now that my midwife has been able to point out to me what Braxton Hicks contractions feel like I have definitely felt a couple today. And about half an hour ago I started getting some period like cramping. All I ask is that she holds out for about a week longer so we can make it to 37 weeks. She has been super active today which has been nice, it gives me some reassurance that even if my body is acting up, she’s doing well in there.
This morning was nice because Brad didn’t have to go to work until about 11:30-noon-ish. I couldn’t sleep last night because I was thinking about blood pressure and what the heck is going on with my body, but I got out of bed at about 7:30, did the dishes, and got to spend some time with Brad before he had to go in to work. The thing that is going to drive me crazy during this bed rest period are our dogs. They growl and bark at anyone who walks by and that makes me sad. People actually walk faster walking by our house because they don’t want to be barked at. They just get so excited I think, but I hate that our dogs are basically assholes. I try not to yell at them because I don’t want to get too excited but they just do it all the time, I’m ready to lock them in the garage.
Well, I’m going to go back to my tv watching and basically just not doing anything. I had some friends call to check up on me today and some others stop by, so that was nice, it broke up the day. Anyway, back to reclining. Again, I hope everyone had a great new year, and Sara if you have access to this I hope you had a safe flight and have a great time on your cruise!
