Baby Shower Pictures!

I’m not going to talk much for this one, just post some pictures. But the Shower was a GREAT day for me. I had so much fun seeing the friends and family that I don’t get to see that often and everyone was SO generous! Thank you so much!!
My Cake:

These were my 3 Happy Helpers!
There are so many more pictures that I would love to post  but those are some of them that make me smile looking through them. What a great day, thanks again everyone!

Oh yeah!

I almost forgot to say, I’m so excited! Brad and I went to Babies R Us the other day and picked up our Travel system (Thanks Mom!!!) and our Pack N Play (Thanks Shelly!!!) and we also bought our Glider that was our anniversary gift to each other. We got an AMAZING deal on it because it was a clearance item and there were none in the warehouse so we got to buy the floor model for A LOT off the retail price. The only bad thing is that we learned that Babies R Us only accepts Bed Bath and Beyond coupons when there is a Buy Buy Baby (Bed bath and beyond owns them) within 100 miles, so while the coupons worked in Greenwood they wouldn’t work in Denver. =(
Pictures to follow sometime! And we’re in the double digits on the Ella countdown!! Crazy!

So much happening!

Well, I’m so close to being 27 weeks (I’ll update again on Friday) that I’m not going to do a survey today, sorry! But as I said I’ll do a 27 week update on Friday.
So weeks 25 and 26 have been something else. I went home on the 14th for my birthday and baby shower (thanks again everyone! I have such amazing friends and family!) which I will do a seperate post on the baby shower probably on Friday as well, I just need to remember to bring my flash drive to work with me so I can upload all the pictures. It was such a great time to be able to spend with my family, and for my birthday we went down to a Pumpkin Patch/Corn Maze in Logootee with my Niece and Nephew and it was so much fun. They got to go on pony rides, mine for rocks, there were slides, a “pumpkin train”, goats, turkeys, chickens, pigs. Everyone had a good time, and we got to take a hay ride out to pick out our pumpkins, Devon and Jacob were having a blast.
While I was at home thought I got some horrible news, Brad called me on Friday to let me know that a good friend and co-worker of ours was killed in a rock climbing accident while he was on vacation in Thailand. Talk about a shock, he had only just turned 26 the week before the accident so it was pretty hard to swallow. So I flew back in on Thursday night and then on Friday morning we were on our way to Texas for his memorial service. What a rough weekend, but his family and friends down there are so amazing and welcomed all of us down there with open arms. We got back in town Sunday night and I was so happy to be home, so was Ella. She was going nuts the whole trip back, kicking up a storm. I can feel her most of the time now, even when I’m up walking around she’ll give a few good kicks when she feels like it.
While I was at home in Bloomington I got my first stranger comment, it was so cute! I was in the bathroom at Kohl’s washing my hands when two little girls came in to use the restroom. The older of the 2 went straight into a stall but the younger one, she couldn’t have been much older then 5 stood in the doorway of a stall doing the potty dance and when I walked by she waved and said hi, so I said hi back. She then goes “Good luck with your baby!” and as soon as I said thanks she runs into the stall and shuts the door. It was adorable, after that first comment I had waitresses touching my belly, people asking when I was due, this little girl opened the flood gates, haha. It was so fun.
Anyway, I’ll post the belly pics that I took yesterday and then I’ll post again on Friday for 27 weeks and then sometime in the very near future about the baby shower!

To Lonestar!

So here are the 2 pictures that we got at our u/s on Monday, the first one is a profile picture and it looks like she’s giving us a thumbs up or is already flipping us off:

And then the second one is another profile picture where she looks like a little Alien:
Creepy, the black hole is her eye socket and then she has her arm sticking out in front of her again, our little alien.
BTW, does anyone know of any elective 3d u/s places in Bloomington or even of anyone that will do a 2d u/s electively? I’d like to be able to bring my mom and Shelly to an u/s and get another confirmation of gender and google gives me NOTHING!
Well, I’m headed home now to make sure I have everything packed and then headed to Denver to fly out, woo hoo! See everyone tonight, tomorrow, or this weekend!

Holy Moly!

I was not prepared for what I heard at the Dr.’s office yesterday. We got there and I had my blood draw for the glucose test. Not bad, they always have trouble finding veins but they always manage to find one. Anita the nurse is keeping her fingers crossed for me that I pass the one hour so she doesn’t have to try to draw blood four times since I’m hard enough to get one draw from. Haha. The drink wasn’t bad, it tasted like really sweet Hawaiian Punch, really sweet. I got a bit of a sugar high which sucked later in the day when I was exhausted but I didn’t get sick like some people do; I’m hoping that’s a good sign.
Then it was time to hop up on the scale and holy moly I was shocked! I am up 17 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight! I don’t know where it all goes because I don’t think I look any bigger except for my belly. I had no clue I was up that much! Once I got over that initial shock (and yes it was a shock) I had the midwife appointment, heartbeat 152 BPM, fundal height measuring 27 weeks! What?! I’m only 24 weeks! Maybe that explains some of this huge weight gain is the fact that she is now measuring 3 weeks ahead. But I did get all of my questions about closer to birthing answered and the midwives support me in my choice for a natural birth.  No inductions, no epidurals, no episiotimies, etc. I want an alert, non drugged baby and with plenty of support I think that I’m perfectly capable of achieving that goal for natural birth. I understand that some things do arise which can totally throw that off, but I know that the midwives support my choice, now I just need to get Brad to back me 100%, he thinks I’m nuts right now. =) Anyway, then we go to the u/s and the Dr says that I have “plenty of fluid” so this might be another reason for the weight gain is because I have “plenty” of amniotic fluid. Crazy, we did get a better picture of her face with her little hand out in front of it, but of course I left them at home and didn’t think to take a picture last night I’ll try to post one tomorrow. But then of course our little one decided to be stuubborn and wouldn’t let them confirm the gender, but that’s kind of good because now we get another u/s at our 28 week appointment. She was sleeping, all the moving that she did RIGHT AFTER the glucose drink wore her out. So all in all it was a crazy appointment with a lot of “What did you just say”‘s from me.

24 Weeks & Viability

Yay for Viability! If something were to happen (lord forbid) and Ella were born early she is now at viability so Dr.’s would do everything in their power to save her. Let’s hope she stays in there for another 16 weeks though. =)
I do believe that we have a future gymnast or dancer in there though, the last 2 days it feels like its been dance party USA in there. Yesterday it wasn’t really specific kicks or punches it was rolls and summersaults and just movement. Today was the same thing until about half an hour ago, she has either flipped and her head is on the left or she’s really trying to build some upper arm strength because my right side has been taking a beating. I can’t help but laugh about it while I’m on the phone at work, people must think I’m nuts.
Yesterday was our 3 year anniversary, it was great. We didn’t really do anything too much since we both had to work but we did go out to dinner. By the end of the day Brad was telling people at work that it was our 62nd anniversary (It started at 3rd, went to 12th, somehow got to 26th, and all of a sudden we were at 62 years of wedded bliss.) so I had to let everyone know that it only felt that long because it was Brad I was married too. =) We decided to forgoe getting a gift for each other this year and we’re going to buy a nice Glider for the nursery that we can both use and it will hopefully make those late night feedings a little nicer.
For my birthday next week I told Brad that all that I wanted was for him to get the nursery painted while I was out of town. I can’t wait to see it when I get back! Then since that will be done I’ll get started with the pink border work that I want done on it. And we still need to get that bed moved out of there, blah.
I’m so excited to be going home! In less than a week I’ll be at home, hopefully no snow to be seen. I just need prayers that I pass my 1 hour glucose test on Monday. I don’t want to be in limbo while I’m at home, or worse, fail the 1 hour and not be able to eat cake at my baby shower (lord forbid!) until I can get back and take my 3 hour test.
And I’m also hoping that all the sugar in the glucola doesn’t make Ella too active and we can get some better pictures from the u/s this time.
And so far so good after the flu shot. My arm was a little sore yesterday and my head was a little foggy but now the arm is completely healed (Yay, it didn’t fall off!) and I feel a little sluggish today but by no means sick. :::knock on wood:::
How far along? 24 Weeks
Total weight gain/loss: I was +8lbs at 20 weeks, I’ll find out Monday where I’m at now.
Maternity clothes? Yep, very comfy.
stretch marks? Still just the 2
Sleep: Okay, still waking up at the weirdest hours of the morning and not being able to go back to sleep. When I am asleep though I’m dead to the world.
Best moment this week: Our anniversary, and the dance party going on inside.
Movement: Oh yes, it’s so much fun to just sit there or lay there and feel her move.
Food cravings: Sweets, which is unfortunate since it’s so readily available at halloween time but I’m trying to stay away, and I’m still addicted to Orange Juice.
Gender: Girl!
Labor Signs: Nope!
Belly Button in or out? I think that my belly button is eating itself. But still in.
What I miss: Sleeping on my tummy, and sushi.
What I am looking forward to: Going home! My birthday, my baby shower, and of Course my u/s on Monday!
Weekly Wisdom: I need to get on it with my maternity leave since I have to go through CIGNA.
Milestones: Viability! And 3 years of marriage!
And here’s what the websites have to say about Ella this week.
Your baby’s growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts her at just over a pound. Since she’s almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), she cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but her body is filling out proportionally and she’ll soon start to plump up. Her brain is also growing quickly now, and her taste buds are continuing to develop. Her lungs are developing “branches” of the respiratory “tree” as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help her air sacs inflate once she hits the outside world. Her skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon. Your baby’s lungs are working hard so they can survive on their own at birth. You may be surprised to notice that your baby responds to the sound of your voice or even the touch of your hand on your tummy by quieting down or occasionally increasing activity as a way of communicating with you! Wondering what (and who) your baby will look like? If you had a baby cam at 24 weeks pregnant, you’d almost be able to tell by now. That beautiful face (though still tiny) is almost fully formed. What’s still missing from the picture is the fat that will be piled on under baby’s skin. Until those fat deposits are made, that very tender skin is still very transparent, which means a close look would let you see clear through to all the organs, bones, and blood vessels. Fortunately, that see-through look won’t last much longer. Babies at this stage of fetal development are gaining about six ounces each week — with much of that gain coming from fat, in addition to growing organs, bones, and muscle.
What’s been playing on your little rocker’s stereo system these days? All kinds of sounds can be heard by your baby in your womb: from air exhaling from your lungs (deep breath now), those gastric gurgles produced by your stomach and intestines, your voice and your partner’s (which your baby will be able to recognize at birth), and even very loud sounds such as honking horns, barking dogs, or a wailing fire truck.
And now for some belly pictures!
Here’s the side view: (Please excuse the dirty mirrow, I’ll have to bring some Windex to work!)

And the view from the front:
Dirty Dirty Mirror!
So I’ll update either sometime late Monday or early Tuesday. Our computer is away from home being un-virused (yes again, I want my $160 back from the first time!) so I don’t know if I’ll be able to update when we get home on Monday or from work on Tuesday with all of my appointment update. And then I should be able to update on Thursday as normal, just differne scenery in the background since I won’t be at work! Woo Hoo!

3 Years Ago Today. . . . . .

I was the most nervous that I have ever been in my life. Haha, today is our 3 year anniversary, it was a great day. I won’t bore you with a bunch of commentary but I will post some of my favorite pictures from that day.

What a great day!

Yay!. . . . . .and flu shots.

So, my excitement is because I got rid of my hours for Friday at Safeway, so I am officially DONE! What a load off of my shoulders. I couldn’t even fathom going back another day, I was upset when they scheduled me and then even more upset when I found out that 2 of the girls whose husbands have VERY recently lost their jobs only got 15 & 25 hours respectively and they’re supposed to be full time! That store is insane, so I was able to help one of them out by giving her 5 more hours this week.
And now tonight I am going to get my “seasonal” flu shot. I called the midwives and they reccomend it and that also want me to get the H1N1 shot when it’s available in the injection instead of just the nasal spray. I called the pharmacy at Safeway and they have plenty of the preservative free flu shot in stock so that I’m not getting pumped full of mercury. Now I’m just keeping MY fingers crossed and seeing if you all could keep YOUR fingers crossed that it doesn’t make me sick. I figure I’d rather get sick with the fake flu and know I’m not contagious then be stuck on a plane with sick people and be sick while I’m home. So wish me luck that I don’t get sick! =)

Really?! (A vent!)

They need to invent a pill that you give a years supply of to women during pregnancy. This pill you would give 1 to every person  that you come into contact with later in the pregnancy to prevent verbal diarrhea on their part. Last night we stopped by the store to grab some milk and a couple things for lunch, within 5 minutes I had 2 different WOMEN that I work with there (and see every week!) make some asinine comment about my size. First I get asked if I’m having twins! Seriously, I’ve worked with you every week so far of this pregnancy, don’t you think I would have mentioned a little blessing such as a SECOND BABY in there?! And then not 5 minutes later another lady (who also obviously has no tact) goes “OMG Rachel. you’re huge! If you keep gorwing you’ll be as big as a house!” Really?! No, I have only gained 8 lbs, my size medium maternity shirts still swim on me, and I’m sorry that I haven’t gained a ton of weight everywhere else but I am ALL belly, that does NOT by any means make me “huge”! I am in fact more then half way through a pregnancy and have a human being growing  in there you idiots! I was so angry when I got home that I was ready to just not finish out my 2 weeks and never go back there again, it was so frustrating how ridiculous some people are. And all this came just 2 days after a girl I work with at the resort and hadn’t seen since I became pregnant told me how amazing I look for being almost 6 months pregnant! Thank you!
Sorry, I just had to get that out, why do people ever think it’s appropriate to make size comments let alone to a pregnant woman?!
Vent Over.
